Pledging Conference for Phase Two of the EIF: Trade for LDC development

The successful first phase (2008-2015) of the EIF will be coming to a close at the end of 2015, and the EIF's Phase Two will begin on 1 January 2016. 

A Pledging Conference is necessary to replenish the EIF Trust Fund and to build on the results achieved so far in addressing the trade and development needs of LDCs. 

The EIF is seeking donor commitments of between US$274 to US$320 million over seven years to help integrate LDCs into the global trading system in a way which contributes to poverty reduction and sustainable development.

If full funding is achieved at the pledging conference, the EIF will be able to help all 48 LDCs own and implement a trade agenda conducive to sustainable pro-poor growth and to increase their presence in international markets.

It is vital that the Donor community translate their commitment to the development of the LDCs into substantial pledges at the EIF Pledging Conference. Adequate funding of Phase Two will empower the EIF to help LDCs use trade as a vehicle to grow their economies out of poverty and make a positive impact on peoples' lives.
